Many people dream their whole lives of riding along a beach – with the wind in their face and the sound of the waves in their ears. Ireland is the perfect country for this. The white sandy beaches often stretch for miles, are wide and open, and never overcrowded.
Sun loungers, beach chairs, or masses of tourists? Nowhere to be seen.
A beach ride in Ireland is something truly special. Often, you feel as if you are completely alone in the world. Galloping freely along the firm sand with the Atlantic sparkling beside you is pure bliss. The Irish scenery is breathtakingly beautiful: gentle dunes, green mountain ranges, and views of ancient castles make every ride an unforgettable experience.
Our German-Irish run riding stable is located near Sligo, the gateway to the secluded northwest coast. This region is known for its inspirational spirituality, vast open spaces, and unspoiled nature – ideal conditions for beach rides far away from mass tourism.

Our 5 Most Beautiful Beach Rides
1. O’Connor’s Island
A truly special place is our family’s private island, O’Connor’s. The small island lies just a few kilometers off the coast. For generations, livestock farming was practiced here, and the O Connor family once lived on the island. Today, only ruins and remnants of Ireland’s typical stone walls remain as evidence.

Even the journey to the island is unique: at low tide, you ride across the seabed from the mainland toward the island. Small channels of water are the only signs that the Atlantic usually covers this area. Once you arrive, the view is spectacular. On one side, the waves crash; on the other, you look tow

next.. ….the beach
ard the Dartry Mountains. You will also encounter our herds of cattle and young horses living freely in untouched nature.
A visit to our private island is an absolutely exclusive experience and remains a highlight for us every time. A ride here feels like traveling back in time.
2. Streedagh Beach
Streedagh is a miles-long, expansive beach perfect for extended gallops. Its dune landscape merges into O’Connor’s Island. The firm sand and wide-open space make Streedagh Beach one of Ireland’s most beautiful riding beaches – ideal for (experienced!) riders who love freedom and speed. The beach is so spacious that you will meet very few other visitors.

fast and free – just like flying
3. Trawalua Beach
From our riding stable, you ride along a private stretch of beach to reach Trawalua Beach. This hidden spot is known to only a few people and is therefore usually deserted. The atmosphere is peaceful and unspoiled – perfect for relaxed rides in complete seclusion.
4. Mullaghmore
From Trawalua Beach, you continue riding toward Mullaghmore. This place is famous for its spectacular view of Classiebawn Castle with the majestic Ben Bulben in the background. best viewed from the back of a horse!

5. Dernish Island
Dernish Island is an offshore island where cattle and young horses also live together. Here, the horses grow up close to nature and in a species-appropriate environment. In the past, up to six families lived on the island. It is completely separated from the mainland and can only be reached at low tide.
After crossing the tidal flats, you arrive on the island. Accompanied by the freely roaming horses, you ride to a special viewpoint overlooking Donegal Bay and Europe’s highest sea cliffs. They create a spectacular sight, rising impressively on the horizon. With its 360-degree panoramic views, the island is a true paradise – for many, one of the most beautiful places in the region.
